At age 63, Royce is adroitly managing the multi-faceted momentum of an adult life marked by single parenthood, public advocacy and devout religion. For eight years, she was a Board Member of the Marin City Community Services District. She's been the Executive Director and Co-Founder of Women Helping All People for sixteen years, and a community activist for as long as anyone presently living in Marin City can remember.
She has taken her battles to the classrooms, boardrooms and to the streets. In 1985, the Board of Supervisors' Housing Authority Commission appointed her a tenant advocate, where she challenged the business-as-usual order and brought about meaningful change on behalf of public housing residents. At great personal risk to herself and her family, she was instrumental in implementing policies that thwarted the negative opportunities presented by local drug pushers. In a predominately beleaguered school district, she has provided the consistent, reliable,
and continually supervised Afterschool Safe House Tutorial Program.
In addition to raising five children of her own, and providing at-risk children in her community with a safe and secure environment, Royce has made a home for more than 80 foster children, three of whom stayed with her for 8-1/2 years. In 2006, Royce was inducted into the Marin Women's Hall of Fame.
Royce brings decades of effective leadership and community organizing experience to CJE’s Board, as her ongoing commitment to Marin City’s low-income residents indicates. She was recently selected to serve on the first-ever Community Advisory Committee to the Marin Superior Court, which will prove invaluable to the CJE Board of Directors as it moves forward.
