Cesar is the Chair of the Marin Human Rights Commission and a Social Worker with the County of Marin. He has worked extensively throughout the community helping others, including work with the Canal Community Alliance, the San Francisco Conservation Corps, and Centerforce, a local nonprofit agency providing services for prisoners, their family members and ex- prisoners.
Cesar currently serves on the Boards of the Prison Law Office and the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership, in addition to serving as a Steering Committee member of Action Coalition for People of Color. Cesar has founded multiple community organizations, and is the recipient of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award, the Marin Community Foundation’s Millennium Leadership Award, the Marin Community Foundation's Millennium Award and the ACLU Benjamin Dreyfus Award. He is a longtime single foster parent.
Cesar brings significant community organization experience to CJE's Board, as well as a depth of knowledge about current criminal and juvenile justice issues.
In 2008, Cesar received a Beryl H. Buck Award for Achievement from the Marin Community Foundation. The 2008 Beryl H. Buck Awards recognized achievement in "promoting social justice in Marin."
