The Center for Judicial Excellence in partnership with the Action Coalition for People of Color convened a community forum, titled “Traffic Court Forum: What you need to know from traffic stop to final outcome,” at St. Raphael’s Church Gymnasium in San Rafael on October 9, 2008 from 7:00pm-9:00pm. The goals of this Forum were to facilitate a meaningful discussion about the public’s rights and responsibilities on the road, and in the courtroom, to educate the greater community about how traffic court operates, and to provide access to information about available resources.

The Traffic Court Forum was comprised of a brief overview and introductory comments from our moderator, 5-minute statements by the forum panelists and a structured Question & Answer session.

The forum was moderated by Cheryl Jennings – ABC7 News.

Forum panelists included:

  • Comm. Geoffrey Carter – Commissioner, Alameda County Superior Court
  • Olivia Beltran - Community Activist
  • Officer Mary Ziegenbein - California Highway Patrol
  • Officers James Bellamy - San Rafael Police Dept. Traffic Division

Supporters of this event included Social Justice Center of Marin, Canal Alliance, Marin Gray Panthers, Canal Welcome Center, the Marin County Youth Commission, Marin Immigrants Rights Coalition, Grassroots Leadership Network, Task Force on the Americas, Fair Housing of Marin, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Vernon Crowley (Manager, Marin City Community Services District), Ambassadors of Hope & Opportunity, ISOJI, Women Helping All People and Marin Peace & Justice Coalition.
